Jennifer Read Hawthorne – inspirational speaker and #1 best selling co-author of Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul and Life Lessons for Loving the Way You Live
“I like it a lot. It’s short and easy to read, but has a lot of “meat” in it for people to work with and learn from. I like your idea of CD-sized, as I’d love for girls and young women to be able to carry this around easily in a handbag or backpack. Your writing is lovely, charming, easy to read and accessible. Thank you so much for sharing your work with me. I think it has tremendous potential to achieve your goals. I think it will make a great book and is perfect for a series.”
-
Jo-anne Wilkinson, Co-Founder and Executive Trustee of the Foundation for Youth Development
“Happy in MY Skin is a wonderful conversation that young women of varied ages will identify with and learn from. It addresses solid self-esteem and confidence theory and delivers the right messages, lessons and practices that, if followed are sure to make young women build their self-esteem at a time in their teenage years when they are most vulnerable. Healthy self-esteem along with a ‘real” Mrs. Wise in their life to mentor them through both the highs and the lows are key ingredients to young women having the confidence to realize their potential.’

Here’s a snippet of the great information you’ll find in Happy in MY Skin……
Listed below are some of the ways you can help to boost your teens self-esteem and confidence..
• Praising your teen for good behaviour.
• If you need to change a behaviour, focus on the behaviour not the person. For example: ‘I don’t like you speaking to me in that tone of voice” instead of, “I don’t like your attitude.”
• Allow your teen to make mistakes and help them to learn from them. Remember that “I told you so” is so unhelpful, even if you did! You hated it, didn’t you?
• Acknowledge effort even if the outcome isn’t great.
• Allow your teen to be right sometimes.
• Pick your battles – allow your teen to win occasionally by “persuading” you that their way will work. Choose those battles carefully.
• Take an interest in what your teen is doing, where they’re going and who with.
• Spend time with your teen. Time spent with a parent is what will be remembered far more than material things.
• Attend as many of your teen’s activities as possible. Mum and Dad on the sidelines, or in the front row will be remembered for life.
• Learn new things together. You’ll have fun too!
• Give lots of cuddles and encouragement, even if they’re not too keen.
• Listen – actively listen - to your teen. We’re all busy; sometimes you’ll need to make the time.
• Show that you make mistakes too and role model how to deal with them.
- Encourage your teen to mix with others.
- Find the positive in every experience.
